HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:
BLUE LEOPARD is a legendary design from the board of the talented naval architect Jack Laurent Giles, who in the early 1960s was asked to produce a design, merging both a motor and sailing yacht equally. With a light displacement, BLUE LEOPARD is easily driven with a sail area ratio comparable with the famous J-Class racing yachts.
In 1962 Desmond Molins of Eaton Square, London chose William Osborne of Littlehampton to build BLUE LEOPARD to the same exacting standards as their lifeboats with a strong but lightweight hull. BLUE LEOPARD was a modern design for her day with long overhangs, the hull being tank tested in the USA with her wave-making pattern satisfactory at 15 knots.
BLUE LEOPARD remained in Desmond’s ownership for some twenty-five years until his death in the late 1980s. BLUE LEOPARD was a familiar sight on the racing circuit with Desmond a member of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, Island Sailing Club, Royal Ocean Racing Club and Yacht Club Italiano.
In new ownership, BLUE LEOPARD was refitted for the Med. racing circuit and in recent years has been the subject of a complete professional restoration to a high standard, whilst retaining the original style and classic appeal of this remarkable yacht.
The hull is constructed of four skins, two Honduras Cedar and two Honduras Mahogany, cascover sheathed and copper fastened to light timbers with multiple stringers. The decks are box girder with two layers of marine ply with stringers between filled with foam plastic and finished with three eighth inch laid teak. Floors, engine seatings and deck-house are aluminium alloy, lightweight internal joinery. BLUE LEOPARD is a considerable technical achievement in lightweight strength and subsequent performance.
Interior accommodation as original by Laurent Giles design team, fully renovated and re-appointed to a high-end standard. Tastefully decorated with polished teak joinery, antique cream paintwork and soft coloured fabrics.
